Experience the beautiful scenic stretches of the Upper James River from Pony Pasture to Reedy Creek while learning strokes and safety. This introductory class focuses on proper fundamentals of kayaking for progression in learning how to safely navigate whitewater.
Who: People new to whitewater kayaking or that have some experience on flatwater and/or canoeing.
What: Learn the basics of whitewater kayaking equipment, the forward stroke, sweep stroke, reverse sweep, and river reading skills.
Where: We will meet at the Reedy Creek Canoe Access before driving you up to our starting point below Pony Pasture. The first half will focus on stroke technique and practice in flat water. We will build your skills up and transition to the Class I & II rapids of the Upper James River. Enjoy Powhite Ledges, Choo – Choo, & Coopers Riffle as you pass under the iconic bridges of Richmond, Virginia.

What to Bring: We provide all paddling equipment and wetsuits. Participants should bring swimwear, sunscreen, and water shoes/footwear.
Cost: $98 or $360 for a 4-person package. All classes require pre-registration due to limited space.
Cancellations or rebookings more than 24 hrs in advance will receive a full refund less a 10% transaction fee or a credit to another class date. Cancellations within 24 hours of the class pay in full or may reschedule for a charge $50.
