Experience the beauty of the James River this summer on the RVA Paddlesports River Leadership Expedition! RVA Paddlesports aims to engage Richmond’s community with the biggest asset of our backyard: the James River. We offer whitewater rafting, flatwater kayaking, whitewater kayaking training, and other programs geared to get customers outside. This summer RVAPS is excited to take all of our existing programs and cater them to the next generation of paddlers.
Participants will pack their bags and join wilderness and sierra rescue certified staff on an adventure on the James. On these 5 day paddles, participants will paddle a stretch of the James by canoe and camp by night. Daily, participants will become outdoor leaders as they take on daily job roles and make executive decisions on behalf of the group. Throughout the week, participants will be aided by staff in expert paddle instruction, knowledge on river ecology, and camping skills. Beyond the boundaries of camp, participants will have guest paddlers join the group to introduce themes and topics relating to leadership and river economy and ecology.
After a week with staff, participants will leave with a lasting love for their community and outdoor leadership skills useful for the obstacles in their future. Students that exhibit strong leadership will have an opportunity to join RVA Paddlesports as a Counselor in Training (CIT) or as a co-leader for international trips. Adventure awaits this summer on the James. No experience necessary, stoke level mandatory.
