Experience the remote stretches of the globe with a two weeks trip traveling and Paddling in Nepal. You will be touched by the magic of the Nepali culture as you trek to & paddle down down the world-class Tamur River for an 8 day expedition. Contribute to local economies as you stay in teahouses, eat traditional dhal bhat, and travel by bus or foot.
Who: Kayakers should be strong Class III/IV paddlers who are interested in building their skills while paddling in the remote stretches of the world. Rafters with no prior experience are also a possibility, but should be physically fit and an appetite for adventure.
What: From Kathmandu we will sort your kayaking gear and boats before heading to the Bhote Koshi Valley about 3 hours from the city. Here we will warm up with the Himalayan Rivers with a day of paddling on the Bhote Kosi & a day on the Balephi Rivers. Afterwards we will take a 15 hour bus to the far east to the city of Durahn. This will be the starting point for the Tamur River Expedition. To follow will be 3 days trek with views of the world’s 3rd tallest peak Kanchenjunga. We will then paddle 4 days down the Tamur River is a self support style sleeping on sandy beaches and cooking our own meals. The first two days will be class IV whitewater, followed by a day of Class II, and concluding with an action packed continuous Class III/IV stretch on the final day. The Tamur then meets the Sun Koshi & Dudh Koshi to form the Septe Koshi river. From there is is a short paddle to the take out at Chatara. A long bus ride or short flight will bring you back to Kathmandu in time for you to fly home.
Day 1: Relax in Kathmandu & get fitted to kayaks
Day 2: Bhote Koshi tour and light paddling
Day 3: Relief work in Balephi Valley
Day 4: Bus to Durahn
Day 5-7: Trek to Tamur Put-in
Day 8-11: Paddle Tamur
Day 12: Bus/Fly to Kathmandu
Day 13: Tour Kathmandu/fly home
Where/When: The trip will start and end in Kathmandu. Plan on flying in by October 25th and fly back out no sooner than November 4th. We will cover your transport, accommodation, and food for this duration.
Accommodation: In Kathmandu you will be staying in a local guest house with shared rooms and bathrooms. On the river we will be camping under the stars or in tents at various sandy beaches each night. The weather is sub tropical but can cool down in the evenings.
Gear/Kayaks: Kayaks are provided for customers up to the paddling ability of the trip. Please let us know what boat you are most comfortable in and we should be able to get it. Rafters will be provided with wet suits, pfds, helmets, and paddles for the trip.
Instruction: During the time on the river we will work with clients consistently on improving their skills in river running, expedition packing, & swift-water safety. By paddling so many consecutive days, this trip will give participants the opportunity to increase their overall paddling ability on the unique Himalayan style rivers.
