Just north of Rishikesh in the Indian state of Uttarakhand the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet to form a Holy River, The Ganges. Join us on an incredible journey down these rivers as you hone your skills and discover India.
Who: We offer programs for both beginner and experienced paddlers. Start from scratch and work your way up to the wave trains of the Ganga, or challenge your current skills on a multi river trip. All trips will be catered to the expectations of the participating paddlers. For all participants it is our goal to teach you and share the experience of overnight expedition paddling.
What: Explore the rivers, cities, and mountains that are the source of one of the world’s famous rivers. We will take care of every detail for ten days of adventuring, including seven days paddling. Add on yoga classes, treks, or just relaxing time as you see fit.
Alternative Plans: We do understand that natural events, fatigue, and illness can occur on these type of trips. For each situation we will do our best to ensure that you get the maximum experience in India on the local rivers. As an alternative for different skills, we can paddle different sections of the main Ganga or complete a 4-day trip on the easier class II/III Kali River.
Where/When: Trips are available anytime between January 12th and March 17th. If you wish to experience the Holi Festival, we encourage you to book your trip for March. Participants should plan on flying in and out of Delhi International Airport. We will see to transportation to and from the airport so you can have a hassle free experience.
Accommodation: During the trip our nights will range from hotels to village guest houses to beach camping beside the river. Both a sleeping bag and sleeping pad are suggested for the camping portions and can be hired in India if needed.
Gear/Kayaks: Participants are encouraged to bring their own drysuit/drytop, skirt, helmet, PFD, and throw bag. Equipment is available for use from RVA as well, you will just need to fly over with it. Flying with your own kayak is possible, but can range in price and feasibility. Airlines such as Emirates & Qatar offer free service for sporting equipment, while some airlines like Delta or United prohibit kayaks. Selling your kayak to a shop in India can be arranged before flying home. Kayak rental in India is available for the entire trip for ~$120. If you are interested in traveling with your own boat check out the blog by Kelly Robinson for tips. You can also contact us for tips and tricks on traveling with a boat as well.
Guides: RVA Paddlesports owner Patrick Griffin will be leading the groups in India for 2017. Having 14 years experience in adventure travel & 5 years experience paddling in India, Patrick will ensure your time and experience in India is maximized. For larger groups we will be using Guides and Instructors from a local outfitter Wet & Wild Explorations in Rishikesh.
Cost: Trips start at $1400 for 10 day all inclusive paddling packages. Price includes all meals, transportation in India, guiding, and accommodation. Price does not include airfare to India, alcohol, or guide gratuities.
Payment: A $400 deposit will be required to reserve a spot. The remaining balance will be due before your arrival to Delhi
